January 2009 Update

Ch ch ch ch cha chaaannnges

That’s what we’re seeing, every day. This is insane! I still remember the day Nora first smiled at me for a reason other than pooping or because she was about to spit up. It was surreal, I didn’t think that it was an actual smile. When she started doing it more often and, apparently, on purpose I was convinced. Now she’s smiling at the drop of a hat, I think I even heard a chortle early this morning. Slowly but surely she’s becoming a real human

It’s the small stuff

These days it’s really the small things that amaze me. For example:

How did she know I was going to be taking her picture? She hates the flash, especially when she’s getting some beauty rest. And speaking of beauty rest, she probably seems like she’s getting plenty, right?! Not so much, on the contrary unfortunately. We’re still working on the magical touch for putting her to sleep. Any tips would be much appreciated :-D

Opposite of small is big. This baby isn’t small. She’s big. She’s in the 89th percentile for weight (yikes) and the 84th percentile for height. Like father like daughter, I suppose.

Sleep? We’ll have none of that around here.

Like or love it, this kid doesn’t know how to sleep! Of all the things to have to learn, her only vice is being able to fall asleep and, once asleep, stay asleep. It may seem trivial to you, just appreciate the fact that you have no problem falling asleep at night. Unless you do in which case you’ve got a pal in Nora.

We take shifts, though Dad admittedly gets the easier and shorter shifts. Weekends are a little easier because we can split the overnight duties more equally. Man, it’ll be nice when this is over.

Someone should’ve told me

How much I’d love this kid. This month has seen many ups and downs. We couldn’t be happier despite the few bumps in the road. Our little girl is happy, healthy and growing like a weed! We’ve put up a few more pictures to our photos section, I’ve got more to do. Wanna order pictures from our site? Yeah, that’s coming soon.

Man Rob, can you write or what? I look forward to new installments on thesterners.org, anticipating your chronology with excitement. Of course, I do have a familial interest in Nora, which makes me not-so-much an objective reader. Nora is hands down, awesome. Ok, so not the greatest sleeper. Kudos to Dad for trying to shoulder some of the nighttime sleeplessness burden while trying to work outside the home (is that still PC or is there new terminology I've missed?) Sympathies to Trish who is soldiering on to be the best-ever Mom who hasn't slept in over two months. You guys are great parents and have a wonderful, thriving daughter. Hang in there...the best is yet to come!
