Welcome

The adventures of Rob, Trish, Nora and Lydia.

"We Need A New Post, Daddy", she says.

Oh, they’ll get a new post! They’ll get it whenever Nora and I decide to give it to them! For now, though, we’re going to be working on our stretches and our grabbing of the feetsies. Did I mention that Nora’s found her feet!?!

Like I said, it’s clear that she can finally feel her feet (beware of incoming tickles from Daddy). She’s learned that she can taste them, too. We’ve thought about killing two birds with one stone and coating her feet with rice cereal at dinner, but that just seems like a waste of some quality opportunity for Daddy to feed her. She seems to really enjoy it, regardless, and I don’t want to mess with a good thing.

Nora’s coming along developmentally, too. She’s able to roll from her stomach to her back regularly and she’s very close to going in the other direction. When she’s on her stomach, she’s able to pull her knees to her chest as if getting into a crawling position. If she keeps pumping the iron on the upper body she’ll be zipping around the floor in no time.

Touching her feet isn’t the only incredibly awesome thing that Nora’s been up too. She’s already a little social butterfly like her Mom, she makes great conversation with all of the other babies in Trish’s Moms group. They grab each others faces and make bubbly, spit-filled coos back and forth. A veritable fountain of cute. Notice that this week she was the center of attention. It’s the honor bestowed to the baby host of the group. Nora really enjoyed having her friends over, but lesson learned: center of the cute fountain means a lot of feet situated close to your face. Not so bad smelling, actually.

I mentioned rice cereal before but didn’t get into it. Holy crap, this is way too much fun! For the last 5 months Trish has been the one who’s primarily had the duty (nay, the pleasure) of feeding Nora. Daddy’s had to take advantage of the occasional bottle that’s come about. Well, those days are starting to come to an end….behold:

I’m soo excited about this, words fail to express it. It took Nora a few days to get used to the consistency of the rice cereal, now she’s eating it like a professional. I’ll admit that it’s mixed together with contributions from Mom, I’m not totally self-sufficient yet :-/. One side effect seems to be that Nora’s noticeably gassier than usual. It cracks me up and she doesn’t seem to mind, so it’s all good.

This past weekend we all went out to celebrate Nora’s friend Ava’s birthday in Maynard. It was an excellent time with lots of toddlers and a few babies present. Everyone had fun making music with Mr. Vic! Nora got to play the drums, a violin, shake some bells and play with scarves. Everything got its turn in her mouth, the scarves were a big hit.

Another activity that’s turned out to be a hit are swings. She loves them! I sense excitement laced with a slight sense of fear as she swings back and forth, this makes me happy. I know I probably took a few years off of my Mother’s life with my childhood antics, I hope Trish and I aren’t going to suffer the same fate. Safe but fun, I always say!

We’ve started using sign language around Nora. Nothing seems to have stuck yet, but if we had to venture a guess at her first sign it’ll probably be the one for “kitty”. She’s infatuated with the kitty :-)

Soon we’ll be going through our apartment with a baby-proofing book (WE DON’T WANT NO BABIES UP IN HERE) trying to think of all of the things that Nora could think of doing before she thinks of them. The challenge feels a lot like preparing a computer network for an assault by hackers. I love challenges. Don’t be surprised if a new montage shows up soon in the most recent gallery with some clips of her nom nomming on some big girl food!

Well, I'm glad Nora was listening to the requests for a new post! Great job, Rob, per usual. Although toe jam straddles the too-much-information line ;-)

She is just the cutest baby!

  2. Steph Stevens says:

    "Safe but Fun" Love it!!

    By the way, She's adorable!!

  3. Rob says:

Steph, only a fellow ex-CAW'er would've picked up on that. :-)
