February 2009 Update
O, hai.
Another month, a horde of new things to ramble on about. I just can’t believe how fast this is all happening. It feels like yesterday that I cautiously drove home from the hospital with this tiny little human. I still remember walking into our chilly apartment for the first time and realizing then how different the environment was compared to the two she’d known so far – the womb and the hospital. Oi.
Milestones
As I alluded to above, Nora’s been cranking through developmental milestones quick, like bunny. Trish and I are just trying to keep up! It all started with a slight smirk in the corner of her mouth when we’d be talking to her, trying to get some sort of reaction. That slowly paved the way toward a bonafide intentional grin! Now we’re on the verge of outright laughter, I can’t wait to tickle those feetsies and have her giggle away on the changing table.

Speaking of laughing, we’ve been brought to tears of laughter. We’ve got a singer in our family now, and it’s not Trish. If you talk to Nora long enough and she’s in the mood, she just might try to serenade you with some delightful melodies of her own creation. Expect a video of that soon. Check out the pictures and video we’ve accrued so far.
Yesterday Trish excitedly informed me that Nora had achieved yet another milestone – she intentionally rolled over! It’s unclear what this means for the big picture, but it’s huge in my opinion. She’ll be walking before we know it!
What else?
We had our first major road trip (Newburyport was the farthest we had gone before this past weekend) out to Western Mass. It went extremely well, Nora has, traditionally, had issues with longer car rides. Recently she’s been doing better and better on long trips, short trips, slow trips, fast trips. We think it’s got something to do with how she’s identified her hands and fingers as suckable and can, therefore, settle herself down before she starts to tweak.

Sleeeeeeeeeeep! We may have had a taste of what it’ll be like to have this kid sleep a little more soundly through the night. A typical nap lasts about an hour during the day, but a few days ago she was sleeping for 2.5X that. I think that it all comes back to the hand and fingers being a new found coping tool, so yay for that :-D
All things considered, this has been an amazing month. I say again, it’s all happening so quickly that my only worry is that I’ll miss something along the way. Each new phase is better than the last, but I by no means want to accelerate anything!
